IPad and Social Media
I have tried to justify the purchase of the IPad. I have found myself walking into Best Buy just to look and play with the device only to walk out on four different visits. Will it help Social Media? Imagine the possibilities, being able to get online virtually every where you have a phone signal. Not having to plug in an air card or tethering a cellular phone. Just push a button and you’re connected.
Connect with FaceBook, Twitter and YouTube pretty much anytime you want.
Syndication at its finest! Imagine sitting in your favorite restaurant and reading the newspaper or a book in vivid color. Connecting with friends and family on Facebook at anytime of the day. Reading and sharing valuable content from your friends blog.
Draw backs seem to be that you do have some limits when it comes to certain software.
You may not be able to connect any DVD Drives to it but this is not really designed to replace the work horse of the the laptop. It really seems to be really for the ease of having fast access to the things we may do to pass the time.
I do see the benefit for somebody like myself that travels to the country sometimes and can’t seem to get internet access very easy using a Mac. To tether with a cell phone, I need to run my Mac on Windows Platform. Defeating my desire to get away from Windows. One drawback I have concluded is that the IPad doesn’t work real well logging into my blog and created a new post. Any ideas from anybody on that one would be appreciated.
In conclusion, I feel that the IPad is a GREAT tool that will benefit the individual that would like to take their Social Media to a new level. However it will not replace your need for the Laptop or Desktop, which ever you prefer. But I do love my new toy!
Hope You Have A Great Day!

It is very interesting tool. I can see a lot of advantages using it. The 10 hour battery life is a Hugh plus. I’m sure that won’t include 10 hours of heavy usage. Seems to work great. I had a sales call on Wednesday and it came in very handy.

Seriously though, I’m glad your enjoying your new purchase! It really depends a lot on what people already have available, what their lifestyles are and what alternatives are available as to whether the ipad is a viable business expense.

You are exactly right, it really does depend on a persons life style. I’m always on the go and it really is a replacement of many things I was currently doing on my iPhone. If I was either at home on in my office all day the desktop or a laptop would work.

Glyna,
Not all of them have cell service “3G”. Some of them are strictly wifi. For me having the cell service was important although the cost is just under $30 / month for unlimited use. But if a person is using an air card with their laptop, the cost around here is approx $60 s month for 5 gig of usage. You really need to look at the uses than make a decision. Since I switched from PC to Mac I have stated that I wouldn’t buy another PC. Lol

I’ve been watching the IPad so I appreciate your review of it. It sounds like a handy tool to add to your arsenal. I remember when the laptop was just becoming popular.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about this new “toy.”

I think that eventually all the things that are missing at the moment will get worked out in the upgraded versions. Apple seems to do this. With the booming trend of mobile marketing, the iPad seems to be the next step for those that want convenience over a laptop but still want greater flexibility than that of a smart phone. I am attracted to the size and ease it seems to offer. At the moment I see it as another gadget/toy that would be great to have but I can still get all I need done with the computer I have.
Have fun!

Bill, thank you for the review. You’ve pointed out pros and cons about the new iPad that I believe are to the point ~ what the iPad is, and what it isn’t. I can definitely see this being a great device to have for, as you described, being anywhere and reading a book or connecting with friends on the internet. The only item that you mention that would deter me from purchasing it at this time is functionality of websites, e.g. writing and updating website blogs. All in all though, I will keep my eye on the iPad, and perhaps will buy the next generation (with hope that some of these “bugs” will be worked out)

iPad to be released in two days in my country. I’m excited to see what it can do for reading/commenting… but I think until some more updates/apps come out, actual syndicating may need to be done with our traditional computers.
But of course – I haven’t gotten my greedy hands on one yet.

Bill,
For me, the iPad is incredible. I got mine about a week after they were released. I don’t have the 3G version as I felt that feature wasn’t important for me. I’ve found it to be a great tool for social media. I took it recently on a trip to visit family in Austin and it traveled very well. Loved having it on the airplane. I could listen to music and read at the same time and stayed connected on the social sites.
Blogging does present a few challenges but nothing too serious for me. I downloaded the Pages app which lets me write my rough drafts anywhere I might be and have a few minutes. Then I can either email it or sync to my desk top for finishing. I also downloaded a Word Press app. I’ve looked at it and the reviews were pretty good on it but I haven’t used it yet to see how it works. I’m sure updates and upgrades will be in the works. I’m loving my new toy and I’m glad you like yours too.

Hi Bill,
Congratulations on getting a fun new toy! I have to admit, I really want one of these babies myself. My son bugs me several times a week about the iPad and wants to go to the Apple store any chance he gets to “play” with the samples there. But first, I want to get a MAC desktop. Then I can think about an iPad.
I love my iPhone and have been a fan of Apple products since the 1980s. Your review is helpful to all of us who are actively using social media and want to connect and syndicate on the fly.

Hey there Bill,
You will want to check out the WordPress App for iPad. It’s the BEST way to use iPad for blogging out right now.
Also, I believe that in order for the iPad to really change the way computers are used we will have to rethink the idea of the mouse. How are we supposed to do a mouseover with our fingers? And other such things you can only do with your mouse.
This means tons of software programs are going to be redesigned just to work with things like the iPad and as this happens more and more people will evolve to the more touchable applications because it’s simply human nature to move in that direction.

Hi Bill,
Before I had the chance to determine whether or not the iPad was worth the investment, I found myself blessed by winning one from TweetShare. Talk about excited…was I ever! I haven’t yet connected mine to At&t so I’m only able to use it where I have wi-fi, but I plan to sign up for the service plan very soon. I think it would be extremely convenient and useful for me.
I recently found myself waiting for a doctor’s appointment for about an hour, so I hauled out my iPad and peppered out a new blog post. It was pretty simple except for the fact that I had to use basic HTML tags because the “Visual” option of the WordPress entry would not work on my iPad. Other than that it worked quite well for me and I didn’t feel like I was wasting time by sitting around in the waiting room!
