What is Mobi

Mobi Sites

A short while back a friend of mine was sharing the concept of Mobile Friendly Websites.  I have always considered my website to be Mobile Friendly.  Not knowing exactly what he was referring to, I asked for more info.  Than he shared with me a number of business websites, than said lets take a look at them on your Mobile Phone.  Needless to say, they were very hard to navigate, read and many components simply didn’t work.

Over the past 5 or 6 years I have dabbled with building and maintaining a few sites. Being intrigued with technology as I am, I decided to start looking at different sites on my phone.   WOW, What an eye opener!   Knowing that you only have a few seconds to keep someones attention, I knew that this was wrong. Have you ever looked at your site on your Mobile Device?

Here is a Mobile Site solution that another friend, “Rob and Glyna Humm shared with me.  Now try it on your mobile phone!  ”www.makeitmobile.mobi” They have done a wonderful job marketing it to businesses in their area.  What a GREAT Tool!  Thank you Rob and Glyna!

Here is my Mobi site that I was able to create in less than 15 minutes.   I have the ability to change it on the fly.  wmjhartman.mobi.

Take a few moments and look at the site than give me some feedback.  Next, take a look at your site and see if it needs any changes.   Please feel FREE to contact me personally if I care share anymore information.

Sincerely,

    Hey Bill,

I still have some time left on my “dumb” phone but I know my next one will be smart. I get the whole concept of making a site mobile and, of course, that is the way it’s going. Certainly, don’t want to be left behind.

    Thanks for the insights.

    Hey Bill,

Seems like a great idea, just wondered how much it takes to run this software on my smart phone. The more software I have put on my phone the slower is seems to go. I guess I will need a 4G phone soon. Anyway, it is a great idea to have something like this on your phone to do maeketing on the fly.

    Hi Bill,
I can honestly say I am not “mobile” these days – in part because I didn’t need to be in the job I left a few months ago. I can certainly see this is something I need to invest the time educationing my self on in the future. Thanks for the information and I look forward to learning more!

Thanks for the great resource Bill,

I have heard of mobi websites and I know that some sites work well on phones and some…well, tragically.

The more prevalent smart phones become, the more essential that our online presence plays well with phones :)

Hi Bill… What fun! I took a look at the Mobi site you created and it’s awesome. Going mobile is something we really have to take seriously and although I’m not there yet, I know it’s something I have to get onto… just beginning to do the research to upgrade my phone. Ahhhh, another learning curve challenge coming up! Thanks for the inspiration and links.

    Hi Bill,

It is definitely a MUST in today’s time to make your site(s) mobile. By increasing nombers of users surfing the net ONLY by mobile phones you would loose a huge chunk of NEW CLIENST if you wouldn’t. I looked myself already into getting my site setup for mobile phones and still have to finalize my actions. For WordPress Blogs there are several plugins available which can help as well.

Thx again for rasing this topic.

    All the best,

    Hello Bill,

I agree that mobile access to the Internet is going to grow tremendously. I haven’t done the whole .mobi thing yet but have made it a point to avoid Flash content (which Apple devices cannot display yet) as well as keep layout simple to navigate. Definitely something we all need to keep in mind. Thanks!

As far as i know mobi is a top-level Internet domain used for Web sites that supply content to cellphones and other handheld devices with tiny screens. The mobi suffix was introduced in 2005, and the first registrations were accepted in 2006 from members of wireless trade organizations. See Internet domain name. Anyway thanks for sharing us your knowledge :) .

    Bill,

This is amazing technology and will have a huge growth. Everyone is looking for a better faster way to manage sites. This is a great venue to approach this situation.

Also, having a video tutorial site is in competition. Lots are popping up all over the place. People find it easier to do a quick video to get their message to the masses. It’s working with email along the side.

Thanks bill, for sharing usable information and I look forward to the next amazing find.

This is so true! I have a couple of businesses here in Fort Wayne that are using Mobi Sites through Network Solutions.

As to Video! I’m locked in on http://www.talkfusion.com/1359130 Having a tremendous success with Clients and Networking Groups here in town.

My greatest success in DRIVING traffic to the mobi site has been with Text Messages that include a link that opens up a COUPON on the mobi site.

I use http://www.izigg.com/bill for this feature.

    Hey Bill,
Can you see me hanging my head in shame? I have been frustrating when trying to navigate several business websites from my mobile phone but I have done nothing (yet) about making sure that my website is mobile-friendly. I assumed that it would take a lot of time and I really wasn’t sure that my target audience would visit my site from my phone. I am going to try one of the new solutions that I have found and start tracking usage to my sites for the next 90-days to see how many people are visiting me from a mobile browser. If I am getting a lot of traffic, it would make sense to ‘advertise’ that fact on my website also, right? Thanks for the kick in the pants I needed to make sure I am meeting customer expectations, instead of doing what it simplest for me.
    Have a good week! Allegra
